Dimensity 6100+: As 5G adoption increases globally, all major mobile chipmakers are racing to provide cost-effective 5G chipsets for mid-range and entry-level handsets. MediaTek has now unveiled a new entry-level chipset as part of the Dimensity 6000 series for really cost 5G devices after launching various 5G solutions for the mid-range market.
The Dimensity 6100+ provides affordable sub-6GHz 5G connection.
The new chipset’s ‘Enhanced’ 5G modem, which supports the 3GPP Release 16 standard and has up to 140 MHz 2CC 5G Carrier Aggregation, is its main selling point.
The SoC also makes use of MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology, which, according to the manufacturer, “significantly reduces power consumption.” When compared to other products on the market, MediaTek claims that its patented technology can save 5G power consumption by up to 20%.
Two Arm Cortex-A76 large cores and six Arm Cortex-A55 efficient cores make up the octa-core CPU found in the Dimensity 6100+. The chip supports up to 108MP Non-ZSL cameras and up to 2K 30 FPS video capture on the imaging front. AI-bokeh is one of the supported camera features for both the front- and rear-facing cameras.
Additionally, the Dimensity 6100+ supports 10-bit displays, enabling mobile devices to faithfully recreate more than one billion colours for vivid images and movies. For a pleasant user experience, it also supports monitors running at up to 120Hz. The launch of the Dimensity 6000 series marks MediaTek’s official debut into the low-cost 5G market, which is currently dominated by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4-series chipsets.
In addition to the 6000 series, MediaTek also provides the Dimensity 7000 series, 8000 series, and 9000 series CPUs for flagship smartphones, lower mid-range devices, and higher mid-range devices, respectively. There isn’t a preliminary list of products that will use the new chipset, but the Dimensity 6100+ will start to appear in consumer electronics starting in the third quarter of this year.
