IPL team Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has once again shown his class.
The IPL 2020 has been a roller coaster ride. Many unexpected alterations due to the COVID-19 pandemic have affected the tournament in one way or the other. However, they have mostly tailored the CSK camp as 13 of their staff including two players were tested positive. This unfortunate incident was followed by two of their veterans Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh withdrawing from the tournament.
IPL Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel, therefore, gave CSK an option to start their tenure a bit later than their scheduled fixture. CSK were scheduled to take on Mumbai Indians in the opening game of IPL on September 19. They were instead offered to start their campaign from Match number 5 on September 23.
However, the ever so classy MS Dhoni refused this generous offer. Those extra few days could have given CSK some more to sort out their team. MSD, however, demanded fair play and courageously declined the offer.
Dhoni – a class apart!
“Releasing IPL schedule is the prerogative of IPL Governing Council. We don’t check with IPL franchises on their preferences in regard to the scheduling of the games. But these are very exceptional circumstances, especially with the Covid-19 cases in the CSK team. That is the reason, before releasing the schedule we discussed with them. We could have scheduled CSK’s first game at a later stage. But they wanted to play the opening game”, said one of the IPL GC members.
The Super Kings on top of that will play three of their matches in the first six days. They are extremely confident about playing their opening game against Mumbai Indians on September 19.
“After all our players tested negative this week, team management was keen to play the opening game of the league. We are all excited to take on Mumbai Indians in the first game”, said one of the team members of CSK Squad in UAE.
