FC Goa shot-stopper Dheeraj Singh has been phenomenal in his showing in the AFC Champions League this season, keeping two clean sheets against Al Rayyan, and more recently, Al Wahda. The 20-year-old made some very crucial saves throughout both matches to keep the scores level.
“I feel like he is the best goalkeeper on Matchday Two,” said Juan Ferrando. “Dheeraj’s saves were very good. One thing for sure is that he needs to improve on his passing game because we know our style is to build up.”
“It was an intense game and both teams performed well,” said Dheeraj Singh. “We played as team and gave our best and that’s the reason we were able to get our second clean sheet. It is a positive result for me and the team which is a confidence booster for the upcoming matches.
“At half-time, the coach told us to play our natural game. We are representing all of India, not just FC Goa. This is the best exposure for us.”
Drawing two games in the continental tournament, Goa are second in the table with two points and will face table toppers Perspolis next. Considering their showings defensively, they might also fancy their chances to get the better of their next opponents by opening their scoring account in the Champions League.
