### The Full Season 1 Story in Brief

Season 1 kicks off with a violent attack on the Vatican, where a masked villain called the White Rabbit steals the Sword of Sparda — a relic tied to the barrier between Earth and Makai, the demon world. This draws in DARKCOM, a US government organisation tasked with handling supernatural threats, led by Vice President William Baines and agent Mary Ann Arkham, known as Lady.

Dante, established as a highly skilled but impulsive demon hunter, holds one half of a mystical amulet connected to Sparda’s power. The White Rabbit needs both halves of the amulet, the Sword, and the blood of Sparda’s sons to shatter the barrier between worlds — making Dante a central target.

Hell itself turns out to be far more complex than anyone imagined — less fire pits, more dystopian nightmare society, ruled by a tyrant and divided by brutal class systems. Mary, who once viewed every demon as a monster, slowly realises things aren’t as black-and-white as she believed. [Abstract AF!](https://abstractaf.in/devil-may-cry-season-1-recapped/)

### How Season 1 Ends — The Big Twists

In the final stretch, the biggest shock of the season is unveiled: a horned demon appears in Makai, frees enslaved demons, and is revealed to be Vergil — the twin brother Dante never knew he had.

Despite fighting together to defeat the White Rabbit, Mary ultimately betrays Dante, handing him over to DARKCOM — who imprisons him in a facility designed to contain demons. Meanwhile, Baines takes the fight directly into Makai using the portal technology, turning what began as a defensive human mission into an outright invasion of Hell.
