It’s been the burning question in Telugu film circles for months: whatever happened to *Devara 2*? Now, producer **Lagadapati Sridhar** has finally spoken up, and his words offer a brutally honest reality check about where Jr NTR stands as a star today.

### What Did the Producer Actually Say?

Lagadapati Sridhar, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, said that fictional dramas set in period backdrops are slowly becoming outdated, and that the old-school narrative style of the original *Devara* restricted Jr NTR’s larger-than-life image — even though he tried his best to elevate it with an intense performance.

That’s quite a statement from someone inside the industry. He didn’t stop there. He further said that NTR needs to choose better stories and directors to raise the bar further, and should find subjects that match his charisma while also helping expand his fan base across markets.

In other words — *Devara* wasn’t the right vehicle for NTR’s stardom. And the sequel? It appears to be quietly off the table.

### The Confirmation That Sealed It

Director Koratala Siva’s next project was announced to be *NBK112* with Nandamuri Balakrishna — effectively confirming that *Devara 2* has been sidelined. When a director moves on to another big project, sequels rarely find their way back.

For context on what made the original *Devara* so divisive, it helps to understand that [Telugu cinema has a long tradition of larger-than-life hero narratives](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telugu_cinema) — and when those narratives feel dated, even the biggest stars can’t carry them across the finish line. That’s essentially what Lagadapati Sridhar is pointing out.

### What’s Jr NTR Doing Instead?

Jr NTR is currently filming *NTRNeel*, which was initially slated for June 25, 2026 but has since been pushed to June 11, 2027. The film is expected to feature Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead, with the official title and glimpse reveal reportedly planned for May 20, 2026 — NTR’s 43rd birthday.

That’s a project built from the ground up to showcase his star power the right way. Maybe *Devara 2* was never the future — *NTRNeel* is.
