Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2, to lift yet another DFL-Supercup. Both sides were missing a few key players who could have proved to make a difference. While Bayern did not have Leroy Sane in their ranks, Dortmund had Jadon Sancho and Thorgan Hazard as notable absences from their squad. After yesterday’s win, Bayern have now won 62 of 126 games in all competitions against Dortmund. This was also their 8th German Super Cup title.

Although both sides began positively, Bayern drew first blood. In the 17th minute, Corentin Tolisso shot from distance before it rebounded off the bar. And the incoming French midfielder only had to poke it in to give Bayern the lead. Things only became worse for Dortmund when in the 31st minute, Muller met a floated cross from left-back Alphonso Davies to score a near-post header. It was 2-0 in a flash. But Dortmund clawed one back before half time, as Halaand combined with winger Julian Brandt who struck a fierce shot from close ranger past Neuer. Although Bayern were leading, the momentum had slightly shifted towards Dortmund.

And those efforts bore fruit when Haaland scored the equaliser after a Delaney through ball to make it 2-2 in the 54th minute. It could so easily have been 3-2 for Dortmund, but Haaland missed a golden opportunity to score. Instead, he shot straight at captain Neuer, which the keeper brilliantly saved. Ultimately, Dortmund caused their own downfall when Bayern surged ahead with a counter after stealing the ball from Thomas Delaney. Lewandowski crossed across to Kimmich who took a shot at goal. But unfortunately, after the initial save from Hitz, it deflected off him which Kimmich chipped over him to score the winner for Bayern. It was overall a superb Der Klassiker fixture, which in the end once again belonged to Bayern Munich.
