On Monday morning at the Arena da Amazonia in Manaus, Brazil, the Indian Women’s football team lost 3-0 to Chile in their second encounter at the Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino.

Maria Urrutia gave the South American nation an early lead in the 13th minute of the encounter. Isidora Hernandez and Karen Araya scored two more goals in the 83rd and 84th minutes, respectively.

India, on the other hand, got off to a strong start, with Manisha Kalyan at the helm once more. With her marauding runs along the left flank, the striker against Brazil made life difficult for Chile’s right back.

She hammered in a low cross for Sweety Devi in the third minute, but the latter could only muster a weak effort towards the goal. India earned another corner a few minutes later, but Manisha’s volley went straight down the keeper’s throat.

Chile gradually gained ground in the contest after the first ten minutes. They were storming India’s defense through Maria Rojas on the right flank, and it didn’t take long for them to break the deadlock when Urrutia scored past Linthoi in goal. The forward grabbed a Rojas pass, made space for herself, and fired the ball to give Chile the lead.

After that, it was nearly one-way traffic in the first half, with Chile controlling possession. They were winning set-pieces in the Indian half, but the defense held firm at the back to maintain the score at 1-0 before the halftime break.

Soumya Guhuloth, Dangmei Grace, and Ritu Rani were introduced by Thomas Dennerby shortly after the second half began to provide greater attacking thrust.

After the three substitutions, the Blue Tigresses began pressing higher up the pitch, with more meaning and purpose. Manisha used her speed to beat the Chilean defense in the 68th minute, but her shot lacked the venom to beat the goalkeeper.

As India piled more men into the offensive third in quest of an equalizer, Chile took advantage of the gaps at the back. The South American nation punished them by scoring two goals in a row.

Lara put in a low cross for the second goal, which Hernandez neatly tapped past Linthoi beneath the crossbar. The third was Araya’s piledriver from long range, which rippled the net. On December 1, India will play Venezuela in their final match of the friendly event.
