Denis Zakaria to leave Borussia Monchengladbach for free in 2022

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria has told the club that he wants to leave at the end of the season. The defensive midfielder’s contract expires in June 2022, and he will be able to walk out as a free agent.

Zakaria can start negotiating with other clubs in a couple days, when the January transfer window is open for business. He will be able to agree to a pre contract agreement with foreign clubs for a potential move in June. But, Gladbach might prefer selling him in January and gathering some transfer fee for him.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are interested in the player alongside two English clubs. One of them is expected to be Liverpool, as they have been interested in the player for a while.

The opportunity to sign such a quality midfielder for no transfer fee in a matter of months could be too much to pass up for these European elites.

Although he has communicated his desire to leave the club when the deal runs out, there is nothing agreed between any potential targets just yet. He could yet remain in Germany and join fellow Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, who are also keeping tabs on Denis Zakaria’s situation.

Alongside Matthias Ginter, the Foals are now set to lose two key players for free at the end of the season with no compensation. They will have to find a way to replace them when the summer transfer window opens, or in January itself.
