Celta Vigo midfielder Denis Suarez is expected to join Villarreal during the summer transfer window. The player has had an interesting career so far, featuring for Barcelona and Arsenal prior to returning to play for Celta.

He has enjoyed perhaps his best spell for his boyhood club as of late, but a massive public row with the president of Celta, Carlos Mourino, has resulted in their relationship being fractured potentially beyond repair.

The 28-year-old has played for Villarreal in the past, during the 15/16 season, when he was on loan from Barcelona. And he could be on his way back, with a deal until 2025 verbally agreed between the two parties.

The midfielder is expected to sign the deal soon, but it depends on Celta Vigo’s decision as to whether it will go through in January or June.

“We have given Denis Suarez four offers that increased his salary and all of them were rejected because they benefited RC Celta,” Carlos Moreno told Mundo Deportivo in a press conference on Thursday.

“He is forcing us to fire him to harm the club. I will not consent to it.

“There are many players in LaLiga who have not been called up and nothing has happened.

“Denis Suarez is the only one who has denounced his club for this because he does not want to help, he wants to harm the club.”

“He has been carrying out a great smear campaign against the club for a year on all its social networks, in unconfirmed information, in opinions that speak of his close circle.”

Suarez has been training alone throughout the season, and could spend the rest of the campaign the same way. But it now remains to be seen whether Celta Vigo will sanction the deal in the winter window to prevent him leaving for free.
