Demon Slayer, known as Kimetsu No Yaiba, stands out as one of the most beloved anime series of its time. As the Hashira Training Arc nears its conclusion, many wonder if Tanjiro has ascended to the rank of Hashira. Following the passing of Rengoku Sama and Tengen Uzui stepping down from his Hashira role, it appears inevitable that Tanjiro will join the ranks of the elite Hashira.
Tanjiro Kamado has defeated two Upper Moon Demons, but has this accomplishment elevated his status within the Demon Slayer Corps?
In the tenth story arc of the anime, known as the Hashira Training Arc, all members of the Demon Slayer Corps engage in rigorous training in anticipation of Muzan Kibutsuji’s threat against Nezuko. With this intensive regimen, the question arises: will Tanjiro achieve significant strength gains and advance his position within the ranks? Let’s delve deeper into this matter.
Demon Slayer Corps Hierarchy
The Demon Slayer Corps was established a millennium ago following the transformation of Muzan Kibutsuji into the first demon. Tanjiro joined the Corps with the mission of restoring his sister Nezuko to human form and avenging his family, who were slaughtered by Muzan.
Tanjiro successfully completed the final selection and was formally inducted into the Demon Slayer Corps as a Mizunoto, the lowest rank. Each member of the Corps is assigned a rank, which they can advance through by undertaking missions and demonstrating their skills. Here is an overview of the ranks within the Corps:
- Hashira (Elites)
- Kinoe
- Kinoto
- Hinoe
- Hinoto
- Tsuchinoe
- Tsuchinoto
- Kanoe
- Kanoto
- Mizunoe
- Mizunoto
Tanjiro has advanced consistently in his ranks, achieving the status of Kanoe during the Entertainment District Arc. While his current rank remains undisclosed, his victories over Upper Moon 6 (Gyutaro and Daki) and Upper Moon 4 (Hantengu) suggest he may soon reach the rank of Kinoe.
Will Tanjiro achieve the rank of Hashira in the Demon Slayer Corps?
Becoming a Hashira requires meeting specific criteria. One must either defeat over 50 demons as a Kinoe or vanquish one of the 12 Upper Moon Demons. Tanjiro meets the qualifications for Hashira status, but his unique situation with his demon sister Nezuko, and his strained relationship with Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa, may complicate matters.
Additionally, Tanjiro Kamado has not yet reached the rank of Kinoe, and he has received assistance from Hashira members in battling some of the Twelve Moon Demons. However, there have been instances where exceptionally talented individuals ascended to Hashira rank in a short period. Muichiro Tokito, known as The Mist Hashira, notably achieved this status at just 14 years old.
Another notable case is Giyu Tomioka, who assumed the role of Water Hashira following Sakonji Urokadaki. Perhaps Tanjiro Kamado will one day succeed Giyu as the Water Hashira, given his early mastery of Water Breathing and the connection between them.
Tanjiro’s primary objectives remain to find a cure for his sister and defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, making rank a secondary concern for him. As the Hashira Training Arc approaches its conclusion, Tanjiro focuses on preparing himself for the ultimate showdown with the Demon King in the upcoming final arc.
