Dembele is now willing to accept a reduced wage to stay in Barcelona

Over the last few months, the club has placed a high priority on player renewal. Since the arrival of Xavi Hernandez, the board’s main focus has shifted to Ousmane Dembélé’s rejuvenation.

Even though the Frenchman’s importance in the squad would lead one to anticipate him to speed up the process, conversations went in the opposite direction. Gerard Romero, on the other hand, brings some positive news to the table.

Barcelona believes that the winger will extend his contract at the conclusion of the long-running saga, according to the Spanish writer. Even though the player has been negotiating with the board for a bigger income on his new deal, the club believes he will end up cutting his salary by close to €6 million gross per year in order to remain in Catalonia.

Dembele is now willing to accept a reduced wage to stay in Barcelona

The forward has had a difficult time since joining the Spanish club two seasons ago. He hasn’t been able to show any consistency in the side due to repeated injuries. His most recent long-term injury occurred during the Euros when he sustained a muscle lesion that required months to recover. Xavi has called Dembélé an indispensable member of his team on numerous occasions, but Dembélé has failed to deliver.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has appeared in Barcelona’s last six La Liga and Champions League games, but it was only against Elche that he scored his first goal of the season.

Dembélé is set to start tonight against Sevilla, an opponent against whom he has a solid record. In February, he showed what he is capable of by scoring a huge solo goal in the 29th minute against Los Nervionenses.
