Dell is updating its entire lineup of notebooks just days before the official CES 2021 event unfolds. We already know that the OEM is expanding its latitude 7000 series. But now we also got the news that the company is expanding its Dell Latitude 5000 series. According to official sources, it offers three different size classes: 13.3, 14, and 15.6 inches.
The models which the company will launch are the Dell Latitude 5320 as well as its convertible variant Dell Latitude 5320 2-in-1 with a 13.3-inch screen, the Dell Latitude 5420 (14-inch panel), and the Dell Latitude 5520, equipped with a 15.6 inch LCD.
Dell Latitude 5000 Laptops
Compared with the 2020 generation, the new models will be thinner and lighter than their predecessors. The new models will start at a lower weight of 1.59 kg (with a 42 Wh battery) instead of starting at 1.87 kg like their predecessors.
But having less weight doesn’t necessarily mean a good thing because Dell has sacrificed some of the features to obtain less weight. The smaller Latitude 5320 does not have an RJ45 Ethernet port anymore. The maximum battery capacity on all three size-classes is reduced. Instead of 68 Wh, the devices now have a capacity of 63 Wh.
Latitude 5320, 5420 & 5520
The new Dell Latitude laptops will be charged exclusively via USB C. one good addition is that of the Thunderbolt 4, instead of Thunderbolt 3. The new models also will not come with typical HDDs. instead for the first time, the OEM is offering only M.2 SSDs. The two RAM slots are kept in the bigger Latitude 5420 and 5520. The smaller Dell Latitude 5320 and its 2-in-1 counterpart meanwhile embrace soldered onboard RAM, but they dell will offer 32 GB of RAM so no worries there.
Intel’s Tiger Lake CPUs will power all the devices, and it seems that the company is still maintaining its distance from the Ryzen CPUs. The new Dell Latitude 5000 series is supposed to be available on January 12, but the pricing details are not yet available.
