Dell Alienware Area-51m R2 with up to Core i9-10900K & RTX 2080 SUPER launched

Dell has launched a quite lot of laptops recently including Dell XPS 15, XPS 17 and gaming laptops including Dell G3 15, G5 15. They’ve also updated their Alienware gaming laptops, and the Dell Alienware Area-51m R2 is one of them.

Featuring the latest Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs, these laptops are indeed very powerful as well as heavy because they pack some serious hardware in it. It packs a 17.3-inch display with lot of options to choose from:

  • 17.3″ FHD (1,920 x 1,080) 144 Hz 9 ms 300-nits 72% NTSC colour gamut + Tobii Eyetracking technology
  • 17.3″ FHD (1,920 x 1,080) 144 Hz 9 ms 300-nits 72% NTSC colour gamut with NVIDIA-GSYNC technology + Tobii Eyetracking technology
  • 17.3″ FHD (1,920 x 1,080) 300 Hz 3 ms 300-nits 100% sRGB color gamut + Tobii Eyetracking technology
  • 17.3″ UHD (3,840 x 2,160) 60 Hz 25 ms 500-nits 100% Adobe RGB colour gamut + Tobii Eyetracking technology

So, it depends on you whether you want a high refresh rate as much as up to 300 Hz with lower 1080p resolution or best resolution (UHD) at lower refresh rates. Dell has tried to reduce the bezels as much as possible and it looks quite decent as a gaming laptop.

Coming to hardware, you get a wide range of options to choose which Intel desktop CPU you want to run on your gaming laptop: octa-core Intel Core i7-10700 and Core i7-10700K, or 10-core Core i9-10900 and top-of-the-line Core i9-10900K with up to 5.3 GHz boost clock speed.

You can configure the laptop with up to 64 GB DDR4-2933 dual-channel RAM or up to 32 GB DDR4-3200 XMP dual-channel. With the Alienware Area-51m R2, you get a variety of storage options in single, dual and RAID0 configurations with up to 2 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD and 4 TB RAID0 (2x 2 TB NVMe M.2 PCIe SSDs).

On the graphics front you also get a variety of options:

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti – 6 GB GDDR6
  • AMD Radeon RX 5700M – 8 GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 – 6 GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER – 8 GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER – 8 GB GDDR6

For connectivity, we have Killer Ethernet E3000 10/100/1000Mbps/2.5Gbps NIC or Killer Wi-Fi6 AX1650i 802.11ax 2×2 Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 5.0. This massive gaming laptop features a massive 90 Wh Battery with Alienware Battery Defender technology.

The Dell Alienware Area-51m R2 gaming laptop will be available in the US from June 9, 2020 with a starting price $3,049.99 while Dell has more to announce about its full availability and pricing.
