Delhi FC’s Rise to Prominence

Back in 1994, Delhi FC was born, starting its football journey in the lower local divisions. It wasn’t until 2009 that the club earned its promotion to the prestigious FD Senior Division, marking a significant step forward. Aligned with Football Delhi, the club has become a regular contender in the top tier of the Delhi Football League system – the Delhi Premier League.

Fast forward to August 2020, and a new chapter unfolded as Ranjit Bajaj, the owner of Minerva Academy, seized a 90% stake in Delhi FC. This move came after Bajaj’s complete sale of Punjab FC to RoundGlass, solidifying his commitment to Delhi FC.

The narrative of Delhi FC’s success continued to unfold in April 2023 when the team, in full training mode, showcased their prowess on the field. Their participation in the 130th edition of the Durand Cup led them to the quarter-finals, a remarkable feat achieved by defeating the formidable ISL side Kerala Blasters in a thrilling final group match.

The triumphs didn’t stop there! May 2023 marked a historic moment for Delhi FC as they clinched their first-ever I-League 2 title. This victory not only added a trophy to their cabinet but also secured their promotion to the coveted I-League for the first time. Notably, they became the first team from Delhi to achieve such a milestone purely based on sporting merit. To lead them through this exciting debut season in the I-League, the club appointed Yan Law as their head coach.
