Defensive mistakes cost Manchester United another loss, making fans furious again

Another day, another unexpected defeat for Manchester United this season. This time it is in UEFA Champions League. After defeating Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig it was expected that Manchester United will continue their form in Turkey as well. But they were beaten by İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. by 2-1.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had gone with 4-4-2 formation again with a diamond at midfield. He had made some changes as well in the starting XI as well. Dean Henderson made his UEFA Champions League debut in place of David De Gea. Axel Tuanzebe, Donny Van De Beek, Juan Mata also got the chance to start in this match.

Manchester United conceded both the goals in counter-attacks and defensive flaws. Istanbul striker Demba Ba scored in the 12th minute from a break after a Manchester United corner. Manchester United defence was completely exposed. The same happened for the second goal for Istanbul. Manchester United defence was completely exposed once again. Although Anthony Martial pulled one back, that was not enough.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was furious with the defense and expressed his anger on his Twitter handle. Robin Van Persie and some other legends and fans were also angry with their team’s performance in the last two matches.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after yesterday’s match said, “Performance was not good enough against a team that worked and ran and hit us on the break a couple of times. They scored two goals, as you do in Europe when you do not defend well enough.”

Manchester United will face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. Solskajer’s back has touched the wall and he must make sure that United return to winning ways very soon.
