Dean Smith has been officially confirmed as the new Norwich City manager. Norwich parted ways with Daniel Farke last week, despite him winning the game against Brentford. They are still rooted to the bottom of the table, despite achieving their first win.

He was sacked on the same weekend as Dean Smith. The 50-year-old was sacked a week ago by Aston Villa. They have since replaced him with Steven Gerrard.

And only seven days after losing his previous job, the manager is back in the Premier League. He has signed a 2.5 year contract with the Canaries and is tasked with helping them survive the drop. Smith previously coached Brentford and Walsall before joining Villa in 2018.

As a boyhood fan of the club, Smith helped Villa back to the Premier League and helped them survive in the top flight for two straight seasons. Here is what Dean Smith had to say about his return to Premier League management:

“It has been a whirlwind seven days but I’m really pleased to be back and working for Norwich City in the Premier League.”

“Clearly, there has been some wonderful work that has gone into this football club over the last four and a half years. It is now the job of myself and Craig to continue and improve on that work with the ultimate aim of surviving in the Premier League.

“Norwich City is a big club, with a massive hardcore of supporters who are fully understanding in what it means to be part of the club and its community. I was brought up in an era when Norwich were competing in Europe – I remember those times well and whenever I’ve visited Carrow Road and Norwich you can really sense the connection between the fans, staff and players. Together, we all have to make Carrow Road a really tough place for visiting teams.
