Speculation on the Dead Island 2 Day 1 Edition Release Date

The much-delayed zombie action role-playing game Dead Island 2, which was first announced in 2014 and was scheduled for release in 2015 before becoming stuck in development purgatory, appears to have made a reappearance.

Dead Island 2 and Amazon

A fresh Amazon listing suggests that Dead Island 2 might debut on February 3rd, 2023. The game was most recently listed as a PS5 and PS4 exclusive pre-order title. New screenshots and a fresh description can be found in the updated listing. It should be noticed that the current listing differs from the previous one for Dead Island 2, which had a placeholder release date of December 31, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This is the first time we’ve heard anything about Dead Island 2 in 2022, other from the Embracer Group’s earnings report, which stated that the game was in the last stages of development and would be released in 2023. Aside from that, there hasn’t been any news on Dead Island 2 in years, and the game has been mocked for being a true “Dead Island.”

Yager, who worked previously on the game Spec Ops The Line until leaving the project in 2015, was the original developer of Dead Island 2. Sumo Digital, which also left the project in late 2018, took their place. Finally, Deep Silver developed an internal development team named Dambuster, which has been spearheading the growth since 2019.

The game’s story appears to have been reworked, as revealed by the now-deleted Amazon description, which stated that players would have six characters to pick from, each with a distinct personality and conversation.

Updated Story Description

This is the portion of the modified plot description for Dead Island 2 which goes like this: A deadly epidemic is sweeping through Los Angeles, transforming its residents into voracious zombies. The city has been quarantined, and the military has withdrawn. Bitten, infected, but not merely impervious, you learn to control the zombie within.

Only you and a few other swaggering fellows who must be resistant to the disease hold the key to LA’s (and humanity’s) destiny. As you investigate the cause of the pandemic, you’ll discover who — or what — you are. Survive, adapt, and save the world – it’s just another day in Los Angeles. The full description can be found below.

While Deep Silver has not yet revealed a release date for Dead Island 2, with Gamescom 2022 only around the corner and developer Deep Silver on the developer panel, the new leak appears to be linked to an upcoming reveal at the event.
