Sometimes even a rising star has to step aside for a legend’s farewell. **DC**, marking director **Lokesh Kanagaraj’s** acting debut, has officially pushed its release from July 31 to **August 7, 2026** — clearing the runway for Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated swansong, **Jana Nayagan**, which now takes over the July 23 slot.

## Jana Nayagan: DC New Release Date

## Why the Shift Happened

With Jana Nayagan confirmed for a July 23 theatrical release, the makers of DC clearly didn’t want to go head-to-head with one of the year’s most emotionally charged send-offs. Instead, they announced the film’s CBFC ‘A’ certification alongside the new August 7 date, giving the romantic action drama breathing room of its own at the box office.

## What DC Is All About

Directed by Captain Miller filmmaker Arun Matheswaran, DC is a gritty, modern-day reimagining of the classic tale of Devadas and Parvati — a story most Indian audiences will recognize from the enduring [Devdas novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devdas_(novel)), which has inspired countless film adaptations over the decades. Here, Lokesh Kanagaraj steps in front of the camera as Devadas, a gangster running from his past, while Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, a woman caught in circumstances of her own. The two find an unlikely bond as their paths collide. Sanjana AK rounds out the cast as Parvathi.

## What’s Next for Lokesh Kanagaraj

Beyond his acting debut, Kanagaraj is gearing up to direct the tentatively titled **AA23 (LK07)** starring Allu Arjun, with Anirudh Ravichander once again composing the music — his first project with the Icon Star.
