Benfica have confirmed the signing of David Neres from Shakhtar Donetsk. The winger has signed a five-year deal with the Portuguese club for a €15 million transfer fee.
He has been officially presented by the club as their new signing, and will provide more depth to the frontline following the departure of Darwin Nunez to Liverpool. The player will be linking up with his teammates for pre-season ahead of the new campaign.
David Neres joins Benfica from Shakhtar Donetsk
“It is good to arrive in a country where everyone speaks Portuguese and I am very happy to sign for the Club. Benfica is a big club in Europe and in the World”, David Neres claimed.
“Everyone knows how strong Benfica is and how great the Club is. I am happy to have the opportunity to play football again, something I love”, he highlighted.
“I hope the adaptation will be easy. I lived five years in the Netherlands, where the language and climate are totally different. Here, in Portugal, I have everything going for me and I hope it will be easier”, assumed Neres.
The Brazilian did not make a single competitive appearance for Shakhtar. He joined them from Ajax in January, but the suspension of the league due to the war prevented him from playing. He is now set to return to the pitch with a new team, and joins the long list of departures for the Ukrainian club.
