David De Gea has equalled Peter Schmeichel’s record of 180 clean sheets for Manchester United. The Spaniard was able to stop Leicester City from scoring in their 3-0 win in the Premier League to achieve the feat.

It took De Gea 521 games for the Red Devils to keep his 180th clean sheet, having joined them in 2011. Since then, he has been a constant presence between the posts and has earned his place as one of the best in the world.

The 32-year-old was called upon in the opening 25 minutes to deny Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho from scoring. And he made no mistake from point blank range to keep the two Foxes away from the back of the net and seal the win for his side. He has now kept ten clean sheets this season, two more than the entirety of last year.

Only recently, David De Gea became the first non-British player to make 400 appearances in the Premier League. He is the youngest to achieve this record, having spent twelve years with the Red Devils.

The former Spain international’s contract expires in the summer, and a renewal has not been agreed as of yet. There have been talks for a goalkeeper better at distribution to join the club. But, with David De Gea’s exceptional form in their last few games, an extension could be likely for him.

He has made no secret that he intends to continue with Manchester United – but there must be an agreement on the contract first.
