### The Setup Going Into the Finale

Matt Murdock had been a fugitive throughout Season 2, as crime boss-turned-New York mayor Wilson Fisk cracked down on vigilantes while trying to make NYC into his own kingdom. In the penultimate episode, Matt came out of hiding because Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) was arrested and charged, forcing him to step in as co-counsel for her trial.

Fisk had visited Karen in her detention cell and tried to kill her, but since she had been officially detained, he let go and essentially wished her luck for her trial — a chilling moment of restrained menace. [DM Talkies](https://dmtalkies.com/daredevil-born-again-season-2-finale-recap-2026/)

### The Finale — Courthouse Chaos & a Bombshell Reveal

The standout sequence of the finale is a multifaceted battle through the courthouse. Matt, now suited up, teams up with Jessica Jones to fight through the building, while Fisk batters his way through protestors who have managed to get inside thanks to a sudden change of heart from Cole — who turns on his commander Powell after learning that Hector Ayala was innocent and seeing Powell order men to open fire on civilians in the crowd. Then comes the moment no one saw coming: Matt Murdock publicly revealed his identity to the world in the Season 2 finale — and was subsequently arrested and sent to prison for his various actions as Daredevil. ### The Ending — Matt in Prison, Fisk in Exile

Matt is arrested and sent to prison alongside Cole, Powell, and the rest of the corrupt Anti-Vigilante Task Force officers he helped expose. [Ready Steady Cut](https://readysteadycut.com/2026/05/06/daredevil-born-again-season-2-ending-explained/)

Kingpin has lost his wife, and after being forced out of the mayor’s office he is left alone on a beach — the very place he said earlier in the season that he didn’t want to be. [Looper](https://www.looper.com/2165797/daredevil-born-again-season-2-marvel-ending-explained/)

While Matt is surrounded by blank walls, Fisk has the open sea before him. Matt will one day experience freedom again, but Fisk is probably done — though as history has shown, villains like Fisk have a way of bouncing back while heroes like Matt are forced to take the long route. ### What Does It Set Up for Season 3?

Season 3 is shaping up to be enormous. The Season 2 finale teases a Defenders reunion for Season 3, with Luke Cage and other familiar street-level Marvel heroes expected to return alongside Daredevil. A Punisher spinoff (*Punisher: One Last Kill*) is also connected to this expanded corner of the MCU.
