Daniele De Rossi has taken up his first senior management role with Serie B side Spal. The former Roma midfielder has signed a contract with the club until 2024, and will get started soon.
While Spal have not confirmed his appointment on their official site, they have made a reference to his famous calf tattoo on their social media sites. And this suggests that De Rossi could be on his way to the club imminently.
Daniele De Rossi becomes manager of Spal
Up until recently, Daniele De Rossi was in the staff of Roberto Mancini’s Italy national team. He helped the Azzurri to the Euro 2020 title as part of the staff, and will now take up his first managerial role.
There were several offers for him right after his retirement in 2020, when he announced that he would be taking up coaching. However, he denied most of them stating that the timing was not right.
Now, having picked up experience with the national team, he will be joining the likes of Fabio Cannavaro, Filippo Inzaghi and Fabio Grosso, with whom he won the 2006 World Cup. Gianluigi Buffon, also part of the Italy squad at the time, is also in Serie B as a player.
Spal are currently 14th in the table and will be looking for a better turn of results under their new manager.
