Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Valencia for the transfer of Daniel Wass. The player will complete the transfer in the coming hours, after signing the contract with his new club.
Madrid previously had a bid of €2 million turned down by Valencia. But, they have now reached an agreement for €2.7 million plus add-ons for the versatile player. He is expected to sign a contract until June 2023 with the reigning La Liga champions.
Daniel Wass all set to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Daniel Wass had entered the final six months of his contract with Valencia, as the winter transfer window opened. And he would have departed as a free agent in the summer if he wasn’t signed now. But, the player has now signed with Atletico Madrid.
Diego Simeone lost Kieran Trippier to Newcastle United in the ongoing transfer window, and was only left with Sime Vrsaljko in the right-back position. While Marcos Llorente can also play in that position, he is better used as a midfielder. Interestingly, the 32-year-old can also feature as a midfielder, like Llorente.
Wass tried to engineer a move to Atletico by refusing to play against them for Valencia. It was there that the decision to sell him was made.
Daniel Wass is expected to be the replacement for Kieran Trippier on the right side of the backline. The fee that Valencia receive for him, and the wage bill freed up can now be used to find a replacement in the final few days of the transfer window.
