Atletico Madrid appears to be closing in on a deal for Valencia‘s Daniel Wass. It hasn’t taken long for Los Rojiblancos to find a replacement for full-back Kieran Trippier.

Absent from the Training

Wass, the Dane who can play both as a midfielder and an attacking full-back for Valencia, quickly emerged as the man they would turn to. Diego Simeone typically uses a back three with wing-backs, which Wass will fit into perfectly.

According to reports, a deal has already been reached with the player, and negotiations between Atleti and Wass are nearing completion. Wass has been linked with a move away from Valencia for some time, and Los Ché must drastically cut their spending to comply with La Liga’s Fair Play rules.

Wass was also absent from Valencia training this morning, despite not being injured, according to Mundo Deportivo. That would imply that a deal is nearing completion and that Wass is almost a Colchonero.

About the Danish Footballer

Wass spent most of his childhood with Copenhagen suburb club BK Avarta, but in 2006, he was scouted by Brondby and promptly switched clubs. He joined the first team after a year of playing for the club’s youth teams.

Wass made his Danish international debut in 2011 against England. Wass signed a four-year contract with Celta Vigo on June 22, 2015. Wass scored one goal and assisted on another in a 2–2 tie with Real Madrid. Wass was named to Denmark’s preliminary 35-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in May 2018. He did not, however, make the final 23.
