Barcelona have decided not to renew Dani Alves’ contract any further, and the Brazilian has left the club for a second, and seemingly final time in his career. The club signed him on a short-term deal last November, and have decided to not renew his contract any further.

“Dear cules (Barcelona fans), the time to say goodbye has really arrived now,” Alves wrote on Instagram. “For more than 8 years I have dedicated myself to this club, these colors and this home, but like everything in life, the years go by and the paths take a detour and the stories are written for some moments in other places, and that is how it has happened.

With the World Cup coming up later this year, Dani Alves will be hopeful of making it to the Brazilian national team. He was in the line-up during their recent friendlies, and will have to stay fit to make it to the competition in the winter.

The 39-year-old made 17 appearances after returning to Camp Nou, and provided some well-needed leadership to the side as they were able to finish second in the table despite having a poor start to the season.

The right-back wanted to continue with Barcelona for the coming season, and was one of the least-paid players in the squad. But, it was an internal decision by the Barca squad to not continue with the player anymore.
