Not every star-studded release finds its footing at the box office. **Daayra**, starring **Kareena Kapoor Khan** and **Prithviraj Sukumaran**, has hit a rough patch just five days into its theatrical run — and the numbers suggest the film’s fate may already be sealed.

### A Weak Discounted Tuesday Signals Trouble

Daayra collected only **Rs. 40-50 lakh** on its first discounted Tuesday — a day when films with strong word-of-mouth typically see a noticeable spike thanks to cheaper ticket prices. The muted growth here is a clear signal: audiences simply aren’t turning up in meaningful numbers, even with the lower price incentive working in the film’s favor.

### Daayra: 5-Day Box Office Breakdown

| Day | Collection |
| --- | --- |
| Day 1 | Rs. 1.00 crore |
| Day 2 | Rs. 1.50 crore |
| Day 3 | Rs. 1.60 crore |
| Day 4 | Rs. 0.40 crore |
| Day 5 (est.) | Rs. 0.50 crore |
| **Total** | **Rs. 5.00 crore** |

Based on current trends, the film is projected to close its first week around **Rs. 6 crore**, with its total theatrical run possibly falling short of the **Rs. 10 crore nett** mark in India.

### Why Isn’t Daayra Connecting With Audiences?

The film is a serious investigative drama — a genre that, while critically respected, tends to draw a niche theatrical audience these days. Films built around dense institutional conflict and moral ambiguity are increasingly seen by audiences as better suited for streaming rather than a big-screen outing, which may explain the tepid turnout despite the star power involved.

### What’s Daayra About?

Directed by **Meghna Gulzar**, the film follows a tense ethical clash within the police system after a disputed encounter. When officer **Raman Kumar** and his team take action against suspects, fellow officer **Ajooni Kohli** begins investigating whether the shooting was staged — triggering a deep institutional conflict. The cast also includes Kanwaljit Singh, Achint Kaur, Anuja Sathe, Seema Azmi, and Biswapati Sarkar.

### Is There Still Hope for Daayra?

While theatrical numbers remain modest, the film’s tense, investigative narrative could find a stronger audience once it lands on a streaming platform, where such stories often perform better with patient, engaged viewers. [Kareena Kapoor Khan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kareena_Kapoor) continues to diversify her filmography with challenging, genre-driven roles like this one.
