It’s raining medals for India as it won4 golds and 14 medals in total yesterday. Ravi Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat, Naveen Kumar, and, Bhavina Patel bagged gold medals for India whereas the country got three silver and seven bronze medals and increased the tally to a total of 14 medals in one day. So far, this was the best-performing day for India.

It’s a proud moment for Ravi Dahiya as he won his first major gold medal defeating Nigeria’s Ebikewenimo Welson at the finale of the men’s 57kg final by technical superiority at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Ravi is a World Championships bronze medallist since 2019. He has bagged three gold medals at Asian Championships.
After him, Vinesh Phogat won all of her three matches in the women’s 54kg category, giving India its second gold medal. Actually, the winner of this category was decided by the Nordic system. In this system, all competitors play against each other in a round-robin system and the wrestler with the most wins bags the gold. Since Vinesh won all three matches, she got the gold for India very easily.
This was Vinesh’s third gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, she also has a World Championship bronze and a gold and bronze at the Asian Games.
Naveen got the third gold for India by defeating Pakistan’s Muhammad Sharif Tahir 9-0 in the final and ended the fantastic campaign in the men’s 74kg category.
India’s star table tennis player Bhavina Patel got a gold medal in the women’s singles class 3-5 at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday. The 35-year-old had won a silver at Tokyo Paralympics and prevailed 12-10, 11-2, 11-2, 11-9 over Nigeria’s Ifechukwude Christiana Ikpeoyi to cap off an amazing show at the quadrennial event.
