Friday night lights, Selhurst Park roaring, and a Premier League heavyweight walking into the away end — this is exactly the kind of fixture Matchweek 2 was made for. Crystal Palace host Manchester City looking to erase the sting of an opening-day defeat, while City arrive buzzing off a last-gasp comeback. Here’s the full lowdown.

## The Story So Far

Palace open matchweek two smarting from a 2-0 opening loss at Everton and will lean on Selhurst Park’s famously hostile atmosphere to unsettle City’s rhythm. City, meanwhile, snatched a dramatic 2-1 win over Bournemouth thanks to a stoppage-time Joško Gvardiol strike, and arrive full of late-drama confidence. Historically, City hold the upper hand in this fixture, though Palace have shown they can spring a surprise on their own turf.

## Prediction

City’s away-day momentum and squad depth make them the narrow favourites, but Palace’s counter-attacking edge through Jean-Philippe Mateta and Daichi Kamada gives them a real shot at frustrating the visitors on a raucous Friday night. Expect a tight, tactical battle rather than a City stroll.
