Patrick Vieira won his first game as the manager of Crystal Palace as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Selhurst Park. The London club were without Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Giovanni Lo Celso due to their international duties, but had Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane and Lucas Moura in the team.
The visitors were reduced to a man short after Japhet Tanganga was sent off in the second half. The player was booked twice within the space of five minutes, first for dissent and argument with Zaha and the second for a tackle on Jordan Ayew.
Palace won a penalty in the 76th minute. The spot-kick was converted by Wilfried Zaha, sending Hugo Lloris the wrong way and giving the Eagles the lead in the latter stages of the game.Â
However, Odsonne Edouard scored only seconds after coming off the bench in his debut in the Premier League. The player was assisted by Zaha and the goal was scored after a deflection from Ben Davies to make his game worse after the handball situation earlier.
Edouard then scored his second goal of the game within ten minutes of coming on, scoring from close range. Spurs have now lost their first game of their season, and are the last team in the league to have lost their undefeated record.
Vieira’s victory will be all the more sweeter since he played for Arsenal for the majority of his career, and Spurs are rivals of not only Arsenal but also Palace.
