Cristiano Ronaldo had a rollercoaster of a match when Portugal took on Slovenia in the Euro 2024 Round of 16. The Al Nassr striker missed a penalty late in the game, and broke down in tears on the pitch, before his teammates gathered around him to offer support.
The 39-year-old’s mentality is hailed as one of his most unique attributes, and the player’s heart rate data from WHOOP showed exactly how strong he is mentally. The player reportedly wears the WHOPP 4.0 wristband underneath some strapping, which is where the data was acquired from.

When you’re @Cristiano, there’s no fear in football. See how CR7 entered a flow state and dropped his heart rate moments before changing momentum of the match against Slovenia. See you in the quarterfinals, Portugal! pic.twitter.com/E9kLLTdFjt

The Portugal sensation went on to take the first penalty in the shootout and apologised to the fans about his miss earlier. The graph shows that Ronaldo’s heart rate dropped massively when he was taking his penalty, before spiking as the ball hit the net, and peaking when Portugal won the game.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently confirmed that Euro 2024 will be his last time playing at the tournament. The veteran is yet to score in the 2024 edition, having only assisted Bruno Fernandes earlier.
Should he find the back of the net in the quarter finals against France, he would become the oldest goalscorer in the history of the competition while also extending his record as the top scorer in EURO history.
Who is the oldest player to appear in the Euros?
Pepe, 41 years old.
