Cristiano Ronaldo could be hit with a massive financial loss due to bonus-related clauses in his contract. The 37-year-old was previously on a massive, £750,000 a week wage at Juventus, but had to agree a base salary almost half that amount to seal a move back to Old Trafford.
The Portugal international is the biggest star at Manchester United, and is among the highest earners in the Premier League. But, frustrations surrounding the team’s performance on the pitch have extended to the financial side as well.
Cristiano Ronaldo set to lose £5 million in total wages
The total amount that Ronaldo could miss out on is rumoured to be around the £5 million region. According to the Sun, he will be missing out on £2.5 million for not making it to the Champions League final in May, and a further £1.5 million since it is almost impossible for Manchester United to win the Premier League title at this point.
While the forward will be earning a small bonus if he finishes as Manchester United’s top scorer, he will miss out on bonuses related to the domestic cup competitions as well.
The Red Devils are in the battle for a top four finish to secure a Champions League berth next season. But with Arsenal and Tottenham all in form, and competing for a spot, it will be an uphill task for Ronaldo to help his side finish in a Champions League spot. Should United achieve a fourth place finish, Ronaldo would earn a small bonus from there as well.
