Cristiano Ronaldo was honoured with a special award for being the top scorer of all-time in the Champions League on the day of the 24-25 group stage draw. The Portuguese star was awarded with a trophy by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.

Not only has Ronaldo scored the most goals in the competition at 140, 11 more than his closest rival, Messi. But, he has also won the tournament five times, once with Manchester United and four times with Real Madrid.

“For me, it’s a pleasure to be here,” Ronaldo said. “Thank you for this amazing award. As you know, Champions League is the highest in football. The records speak for themselves, but the league is at that level because of the players that play in the competition.”

The 39-year-old is currently away from Europe and is playing with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. He is yet to win a major domestic or continental trophy in Saudi Arabia, but has finished as the top scorer in his first full season in the league.

It remains to be seen if he can win the AFC Champions League anytime soon, having established himself as one of the all-time greats in the competition’s European counterpart.
