Cristiano Ronaldo hints at Manchester United stay sacrificing Champions League football in 22/23

Cristiano Ronaldo could end up staying at Manchester United despite them not having Champions League football next season. With only one matchday remaining, United will need to win against Crystal Palace to ensure that they won’t be playing in the Conference League next season.

Erik Ten Hag has been named the new manager of the club, and is starting his work with the Premier League side immediately. One of the priorities for the 52-year-old is to keep hold of Cristiano Ronaldo for the coming season.

Erik Ten Hag speaks on Cristiano Ronaldo and his importance to the team

“From tomorrow, my focus will be on United, and I will of course get deep into things there,” Ten Hag said after his final Ajax game, as quoted by the Metro.

“What I have to say about it is, the detailed analysis still has to begin, I still have to work with the team, but let me be clear that at United there are a lot of good players around.

“We have to make them function as a team but definitely Ronaldo, he is a giant.”

There has been a lot of speculation as to whether Cristiano Ronaldo’s age will let him fit into the system that Ten Hag will play. But now, after positive comments from both the player and the new manager, it seems that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will be a key part of the team for the coming season too.
