Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has now become the first football player to earn more than $1 billion during his career, while he is still playing phenomenally well. So it seems the number would go up even higher until he retires.
Ronaldo has earned $105m last year according to Forbes highest-paid athletes in the world in 2020 list. This earning has helped him to cross the $1 billion mark. He is the third athlete to achieve this figure while still playing. Before him, Tiger Woods achieved this in 2009 and Floyd Mayweather did this in 2017.
The 35-year old is also the first individual from team sport to achieve this mark. He has earned around $650m as salary during his 17-years playing career. Ronaldo’s rival on the pitch, Messi has earned around $605m as salary so far.
Ronaldo has a lifetime contract with Nike, who pay him $20m per year. He is the third athlete after Michael Jordan and LeBron James to have signed a lifetime endorsement contract with Nike.
Apart from this endorsement with Nike he has deals with Electronic Arts, Altice, DAZN and Herbalife among many others.
The Portuguese international has his own clothing brand known as ‘CR7’. Ronaldo also has hotels branded under his CR7 Line through the Pestano Lifestyle Hotels company. He currently has two hotels: one in Lisbon and one in his hometown Funchal on the island of Madeira.
