The ones with the best runs are regarded as the best cricketers. Let’s have a look at the top run scorers by the end of each year in the last 10 years.
Cricketers with the highest run scorers at the end of each calendar year
Michael Clarke (2012)- 2251
Michael Clarke has had one of the best years with the bat by mustering 2251 runs. In tests, he amassed 1595 runs, in ODI he scored 656 runs. His best innings of 2012 was the unbeaten score of 329 against India in January. He also mustered three double centuries in this year.
AB de Villiers (2013) – 2181
The South African batter mustered 933 runs in the test, with 1163 in ODI and 85 runs in the T20I format. In 2010 when he scored 996 runs and in 2013 when he made 933, and he nearly reached those heights once again.
Kumar Sangakkara (2014) – 2813
Sangakara gathered 1256 runs in ODI, 1210 runs in tests, and 347 in T20Is. Remarkably, he scored 13,000 runs in ODIs during the England series in November-Decmeber, becoming the fourth player to achieve this.
Kane Williamson (2015) – 2692
New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson gathered 1172 runs in tests, 1376 in ODI, and 144 runs in the shortest format. This year he also scored the most centuries from New Zealand.
Virat Kohli (2016) – 2595
2016 is considered to be the best year in Kohli’s career. He amassed 739 runs in the ODI,641 runs in T20I, and 1215 runs in the test format. He smashed seven centuries across formats including a maiden double-century against West Indies.
Virat Kohli (2017) – 2818
The former Indian skipper notched up 1059 runs in tests, 1460 in ODIs, and 299 runs in the T20Is. He hit 11 centuries that included three double hundreds.
Virat Kohli (2018) – 2735
Once again, Virat Kohli made it to the top by mustering 11 tons, nine fifties, and accumulating 2735 runs in total. He gathered 1322 runs in the longest format, 1202 in One Day Internationals, and 211 in the T20Is.
Virat Kohli (2019) – 2455
Kohli mustered 177 runs in the ODI format, 466 runs in T20Is, and 612 in the Tests. His last ton was in December 2019 after which he had a century drought for almost 2.5 years. He broke this by scoring 122 against Afghanistan in Asia Cup.
Aaron Finch (2020) – 944
In 2020, the Australian player gathered 673 runs in ODI, and 271 in T20I and emerged as the highest international run scorer. He scored two tons in 2020, both against India.
Mohamamad Rizwan (2021) – 1915
In 2021, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan scored 1239 runs in T20I, 134 runs in ODI, and 542 in the Test format. ICC named him the No.1 T20I cricketer of that year and his records in the format are difficult to break.
Babar Azam (2022) – 2598
The Pakistani skipper was the only player to breach the 2000-run mark in 2022vwhich included eight hundred and 17 fifties. He amassed 1184 runs in tests, 574 runs in ODI, and 840 in T20Is. For his spectacular performance, he’s also nominated for the ICC cricketer of the year award.
