The Gorilla Glass 7i is designed for mid-range and lower-cost phones. In the absence of version 7, why “7i”? When we questioned Corning about it, they said that this glass is a seventh generation, much like Victus, and they intended the name to represent that. The letter “i” stands for “industry-leading innovation for intermediate devices,” to put it simply.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Gorilla Glass 7i is two times (or better) less prone to scratches than those rival glasses. The 7i formulation was created with a broad range of phones at varying price points in mind. Considering that these would be mass-market models, sustainability is also emphasized.
Corning and its partners saw a need for a more contemporary product, but one that would still be affordable and adhere to the current trend of placing premium displays on mid-range models—10-bit and even 12-bit OLED screens are not unheard of. There was a need for something to go in between GG5 and Victus because they have also grown larger—much larger than the usual display size back in 2016 when GG5 arrived.
With its remarkable durability, Gorilla Glass 7i can survive drops up to one meter onto surfaces that resemble asphalt. With the help of this cutting-edge glass technology, gadgets are better protected and guaranteed to stay intact and functional even under trying circumstances. Because of its durability, it’s a great option for smartphones and other electrical gadgets that are vulnerable to unintentional drops and collisions.
According to Corning, Oppo will be the first business to introduce a phone that has Gorilla Glass 7i. Oppo will shortly release more information. Although it can be used for smartwatches and other gadgets that require glass that is resistant to scratches and falls, 7i will be used on phones.
