Collin Sexton is silently emerging as one of the better point guards in the Eastern Conference. In eight games, which the Cavaliers have surprisingly navigated with a 4-4 record, Sexton is averaging more than 25 points per game on better than 53 percent shooting, including a 51 percent mark from the three-pointer line.

In Cleveland’s loss to Orlando on Wednesday, Sexton put up a 21-point performance. He has now scored a minimum of 20 points in all of the eight games to start the season, which is a Cavaliers franchise record. Even LeBron James could not do it during his time with Cleveland. The most number of consecutive 20-point games James tallied to begin a season with the Cavaliers was seven.

Sexton ended Wednesday’s 105-94 loss with 21 points on 8-of-20 shooting, to go along with two triples, three rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block and zero turnovers in 35 minutes of playing time. The only downside to his outstanding performance was that Cleveland was unable to escape with a win.

The budding star is in the midst of another breakout campaign and is currently averaging 25.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals, while also connecting on 2.0 triples per game on a 51.6 percent clip. He is arguably the best player in the Cavaliers franchise so far, who themselves have had a strong start to the new season. While his shooting appears to be unsustainable, the 22-year-old is not expected to fall too far off from his current shooting form.

Sexton is fully expected to keep up his hot streak as the Cavs return to action on Thursday in the second night of a back-to-back set, as they will take on the Memphis Grizzlies.
