Cloud computing growing more than ever! Spending hits $42 billion worldwide: Canalys

In these tough times of pandemic across the globe, work-from-home culture has been rising since last year, which has increased the demand for cloud computing more than ever! Companies require computing resource from the cloud as well as VDIs to serve employees working from home.

A new report from market tracker Canalys says a record $41.8 billion was spent on cloud computing in the recently ended quarter. Spending on “cloud infrastructure services” around the world was up nearly $11 billion from the first three months of last year, according to Canalys.

Giants like AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud have come out to be the winners, each of them occupying 32%, 19% and 7% respectively of the market share.

“Cloud emerged as a winner across all sectors over the last year, basically since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of lockdowns,” said Canalys research analyst Blake Murray.

“Organizations depended on digital services and being online to maintain operations and adapt to the unfolding situation.”

Despite large-scale spending on cloud in the past year, most businesses have yet to make the “digital transformation,” according to Murray.

More and more businesses are shifting to cloud infrastructure, and the trend is likely to continue over the years as confidence in the economy improves and postponed projects to take on new life. On top of that, cloud gaming is also helping to grow the cloud computing market more than ever, and entertainment going more digital; this type of revenue is expected.
