*Clayface* is now in theaters, and it hides a connection to HBO’s *Lanterns* that DC fans shouldn’t miss. The link is **Coast City**, Hal Jordan’s hometown, and it may hint at big plans for the DCU.

## The Connection in Brief

In *Clayface*, actor Matt Hagen moves to Coast City with his friend Corey Bowery, chasing Hollywood-style dreams. After an attack in Gotham ruins his career, Matt heads home, while Corey stays out west. Later, Matt visits Corey after nanites repair his face, and the two enjoy a beach trip before things go wrong back in Gotham.

*Lanterns* uses the same city. Hal’s house is in Coast City, a large home gifted by a wealthy man who wanted to thank him for saving his son.

## What It Could Mean?

Coast City appearing right after *Lanterns* suggests DC Studios sees it as a major location, possibly on par with Gotham. The author lays out a few possibilities:

- **Flashbacks:** a future project could show Hal’s heroics in his hometown.
- **John’s return:** John could revisit the city in *Lanterns* Season 2 and hear stories about Hal.
- **Hal returns alive:** Sinestro told John he could bring Hal back if he had a power ring. John didn’t take the bait, but that doesn’t prove Sinestro was lying.

## The Dark Side of Coast City

In the comics, Coast City suffers a tragic fate. After Superman’s death, Cyborg Superman and Mongul destroy it and kill millions. Hal is pushed over the edge, rebuilds the city with his ring and ultimately becomes the villain Parallax. He later redeems himself with a heroic sacrifice.

The article speculates that DC Studios could borrow from that story. Brainiac, the villain of *Man of Tomorrow*, could wreck Coast City, and Sinestro might then revive a broken Hal in *Lanterns* Season 2. That would give the DCU a major threat, possibly the large-scale villain it currently lacks. None of this is confirmed, so treat it as a fan theory.

## Conclusion

I love how DC Studios plants small details early. A beach scene in a body-horror film suddenly looks like a setup for something larger. Still, a location showing up twice is not a promise, so I’d enjoy the theory without betting on it.
