In the premiere, *Directed Energy*, a prototype weapon was stolen from a US defense contractor and a coordinated attack led to the formation of a CIA-FBI fusion task force in New York City — through a rare legal loophole allowing the CIA to operate on American soil. Glass and Goodman stopped the rogue agent trying to sell the technology, but the episode ended with a revelation that there could be a mole within the task force itself. ## What to Expect in Episode 2: “Fatal Defect”

Episode 2 is titled *“Fatal Defect”* and finds Colin and Bill on the trail of a smuggler near the New York border while also contending with a foreign intelligence officer who may be seeking asylum.

Episode 2 is likely to further develop the mole hunt introduced in the first episode, with Bill Goodman now fully integrated into the CIA-FBI hybrid cell, quietly evaluating team members in secret while managing ongoing investigations without tipping his hand. Colin Glass may also be following a lead suggesting the original directed energy weapon attack was merely part of a larger network involving foreign intelligence services. ## Why CIA Is Already a Must-Watch

CIA was created by Dick Wolf and David Hudgins, produced by Wolf Entertainment, CBS Studios, and Universal Television, and CBS made the straight-to-series order in April 2025 — skipping the backdoor pilot route entirely.

CBS canceled both *FBI: Most Wanted* and *FBI: International* to make room for *CIA*, signaling how much the network is betting on this new chapter of Dick Wolf’s procedural empire.

The show is part of the broader tradition of [American police procedural dramas on CBS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS), a network that has dominated the genre for decades.
