Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea not in doubt in spite of no announcement

Christopher Nkunku can be considered a new Chelsea player as things stand. There have been no announcements from the Blues or RB Leipzig yet. And this has cast doubt in the minds of fans over whether the move is actually going through.

However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, the contracts have already been signed alongside a medical in September. The pre-contract agreement guarantees that the Frenchman will make the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer. The transfer fee involved is upwards of €60 million, as part of his release clause.

Christopher Nkunku to join Chelsea regardless of announcement ambiguity

The 25-year-old has had to deal with a number of injuries since the 2022 World Cup. He missed out on participation with the France national team due to an injury sustained in training with the national team camp.

Since then, Nkunku has also ensured a number of setbacks which have hampered his contributions to Leipzig. But, he has still been able to contribute 17 goals from 27 games across all competitions this season.

In spite of Chelsea’s struggles to secure Champions League football this season, the deal has been done and Christopher Nkunku will eventually be announced. But, he isn’t the reliable centre-forward that the Blues are looking for right now.

Much like Kai Havertz and Joao Felix, he is a second striker who can play across the forward line. And this could lead to a significant clearout in the summer, which could see the likes of Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic leave the club in a few months.
