Christopher Nkunku has signed a new contract with RB Leipzig amidst all the transfer speculation surrounding him. As a result, there is no chance of him leaving the club this summer despite all the rumours surrounding his future.
But, that’s not to say that he will be with the Bundesliga side for a very long time. There is a release clause worth €60 million included in his new deal, which will be valid from 2023 onwards. And according to Fabrizio Romano, it could reach higher figures as well.
Christopher Nkunku signs new deal with RB Leipzig
The attacking midfielder had his best ever season in 21/22, scoring 20 goals and providing 14 assists in 34 league games as his side finished fourth in the table. He also helped them win the DFB Pokal, their first major trophy, defeating Freiburg in the finals.
“I am pleased to continue wearing the RB Leipzig shirt,” Christopher Nkunku said upon his renewal.
“After our great achievement in winning the DFB-Pokal (German Cup), it remained clear that my story here isn’t over yet – we want more.
“I was really impressed with the club’s efforts to keep me.”
The Frenchman was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season for 21/22 due to his performance, and now has a deal until 2026 agreed. But, with top clubs across Europe monitoring his situation, there is little chance that he will be staying at the club for very long unless he wishes to.
