# Christoph Freund rules out Chelsea switch; confirms RB Salzburg stay

Christoph Freund will be staying at RB Salzburg despite interest from Chelsea. The sporting director was [expected to have reached an agreement](https://technosports.co.in/2022/09/18/chelsea-to-appoint-christoph-freund/) with the Premier League side to become their new sporting director. 

However, a U-turn in the last 24 hours has seen both Freund and RB Salzburg put out statements confirming that he will be going nowhere.

“As I have already confirmed in interviews, Chelsea FC was interested in me. When such a big club asks, it not only honors me and the work of FC Red Bull Salzburg, it is of course also a circumstance that entails personal considerations. “We’re in the middle of a very intense phase and have important tasks to do in the Bundesliga, Cup and Champions League – that’s what my focus and concentration are on.” 

Chelsea have had other names on their list, and are moving on in their quest to recruit a new sporting director. Michael Edwards and Oliver Mintzlaff have not been persuaded, and others will now be contacted over the job.
