Christian Eriksen’s agency has hinted that the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder could return to England. Eriksen had a heart episode while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 last summer, and an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator was implanted in his chest.

Eriksen’s Homecoming

However, because players in Italy are not permitted to play with defibrillators, the 29-year-old was obliged to amicably cancel his contract with Inter Milan and is now a free agent. And now, according to his agency, a return to English football may be on the cards shortly.

“Playing in England again would feel like coming home for Chris and his family,” Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots told the BBC.

“Christian has been treated exceptionally well by the British public, not only because of his top football skills but also because of his human values, his modesty, and altruism.”

Grateful for Support

Eriksen is presently training in Denmark to restore fitness after his health crisis, and on Tuesday he uploaded a clip from an interview he gave in his home country on social media.

Eriksen said: “It was amazing that so many people felt a need to write or send flowers.”

“It had an impact on so many people and they felt a need to let me and my family know. That made me happy.”

“It was weird because I didn’t expect people to send flowers because I had died for five minutes. It was quite extraordinary, but it was very nice of everyone and it has been a big help to me to receive all those best wishes.”

“I’ve thanked the doctors, my teammates, and their families in person. But all the fans who have sent thousands of letters and emails and flowers – or who have come up to me on the street in both Italy and Denmark – I thank them all for the support.”
