Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Christian Eriksen will be making his debut for the Bees in their game against Newcastle United tomorrow.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has not stepped on to the pitch in a professional game since the Euro 2020 opener against Finland. It was the game where he suffered a cardiac arrest and had to be hospitalised afterwards.
Christian Eriksen will be making his return to football against Newcastle United
“Christian Eriksen will be in the squad and he will get on the pitch tomorrow,” Frank told reporters on Friday.
“It’s a big day for all of us but especially Christian and his family.”
Inter Milan mutually terminated Eriksen’s contract in December. Serie A laws prevent players with heart devices from playing football, and so, there was no other option but to let him go.
And now, he will be featuring for Brentford in the Premier League under compatriot Thomas Frank. Christian Eriksen will be wearing the number 21 shirt for the club, who are currently in 14th place in the league.
“I feel very good. It was a tough test in the last week or so with the game against Southend,” he told Brentford’s website.
“I feel like I’m in a good place mentally going into the games and body wise, which is the most important at the moment.
“I’m actually a bit surprised that my body is acting the way it is. Of course, I’ve been training hard but I didn’t expect to be as good as I feel now. It’s definitely something very positive.”
