Christian Eriksen has been released from hospital after undergoing successful surgery. The good news was posted first by the Denmark football board social media handles, which also includes a message from Eriksen himself.

“Christian Eriksen has been through a successful operation and was today discharged from Rigshospitalet. Today he also visited the national team in Helsingor – and from there he will go home and spend time with his family.”

Here is what the Danish number 10 had to say for all the support he received:

“Thank you for the massive number of greetings – it has been incredible to see and feel. The operation went well, and I am doing really well under the circumstances. It was really great to see the guys again after the fantastic game they played last night. No need to say, that I will be cheering them on against Russia on Monday.”

Eriksen collapsed shortly before half-time in Denmark’s first game in Euro 2020 against Finland. The game was stopped immediately by referee Anthony Taylor, and medical staff rushed on to the pitch to check on him.

The staff had to give him CPR and use a defibrillator as well. Fortunately, they managed to get him back after using the machine once. The match was restarted after 90 minutes, and Finland managed to get the better of the Danes at home with a 1-0 win.

The successful operation saw Eriksen fitted with a heart device that helps regulate the rhythm of the heartbeat to prevent any further such occurrences.
