AS Roma have agreed on personal terms with Chris Smalling according to multiple reports in Italy. English defender Chris Smalling has spent a year in loan at AS Roma last season. His performance in Serie-A was excellent last year so, AS Roma is very much interested to retain him completely.

Chris Smalling joined Manchester United in 2010. He has won 2 Premier Leagues. 1 FA Cup and 1 Europa League with Manchester United. The defender has scored 18 goals in his 323 Man United appearances and has also represented his country 31 times in his career.

The 30 years old lost his form in his last few seasons with Manchester United and was extremely criticized by the fans and the pundits. He also lost the faith of his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and this is why United signed Harry Maguire from Leicester City last season and sent Smalling to AS Roma in a loan spell.

After an excellent season, it was expected that Manchester United will retain him again. But Manchester United has some other plans. They are looking for Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig. The 23-years old can be an asset for the future and will surely give a long-term service to the club.

Smalling’s contract with Manchester United is going to end in 2022 which is why Man United is interested to sell him to AS Roma for a 12 million euro fee, well the final decision will be taken very soon.
