As per the sources, Chicharito Hernández experienced a divergent day. It was verified that the renowned striker was not taken into consideration when Gerardo Tata Martino’s call-up of the 31 finalists for the Qatar 2022 World Cup was released in the morning.
However, things turned around for the former Real Madrid and Manchester United player in the evening when the Los Angeles Galaxy named the Mexican player their MVP and Golden Boot winner.
Galaxy, Chicharito, and Mexican National Team
La Galaxy used social media to express their sincere congratulations to Chicharito, their MVP, and Golden Boot winner, while the official Mexican National Team account overlooked the accomplishment of El Tri’s all-time leading goal scorer.
Hernández won the Golden Boot as the Angelino team’s top scorer for the whole Major League Soccer season with 14 goals in his personal tally for the campaign. The top scorer in El Tri history, who was chosen as Player of the Year despite failing to maintain his club in contention for the championship when Los Angeles Football Club eliminated them, also received the most significant individual accolade.
Chicharito’s Achievements with El Tri
Along with Luis Hernández, Chicharito has scored the most goals for the Mexican National Team in World Cups, but Tata Martino does not use that as a justification. The seasoned player, who debuted for Chivas Guadalajara in his professional career, will therefore miss his fourth World Cup after competing in South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, and Russia 2018.
His Absence from the National Team
Chicharito denied the idea that his time with the Mexican national team is finished, despite the fact that he hasn’t had a call-up from El Tri since 2019 and that he was just omitted from a preliminary 31-man squad for the World Cup. On an edition of Hugo Sanchez Presenta, Mexico’s all-time leading scorer declared, “I’m still eligible.”
He was reportedly absent from the national team due to an off-field conflict, but there seemed to be hope for a reconciliation when Mexico coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino revealed in May that he had spoken with the striker. However, Martino added that this didn’t guarantee Hernandez would return.
Martino stated in September that the organization was concentrating on other options in the striker position for Qatar despite the fact that the 34-year-old scored 18 goals for the Galaxy this season and was chosen as a finalist for the MLS’ 2022 MVP award.
The striker added that he will rejoin the Galaxy in 2019 and that he and the organization are already in negotiations to possibly extend his contract past 2023. After losing 3-2 to rivals LAFC on October 20, Hernandez and the Galaxy recently ended their MLS Cup playoff run with an elimination in the Western Conference Semifinals.
