Chennaiyin FC have pulled of a shocking win against table toppers Odisha FC, winning 2-1 at home against the Kalinga Warriors. Jordan Murray proved to be the difference maker, scoring in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn all three points from what could have been a draw.

Roy Krishna did well to equalise after Ankit Mukherjee’s early goal, but they were unable to find the back of the net again to earn themselves a lead late in the game.

Chennaiyin FC defeat Odisha FC 2-1 at home in surprise win

“What we have to do is certainly be more clinical because we create big chances in every game,” Owen Coyle said before the game.

“But that being said, for where we are just now, we want to be winning; we can do that. So four games at home and two away, all games capable of winning because we’ve shown good performances. But what we need is that clinical edge to take the chances,” he continued.

And his team translated that to their performance, beating the top team in the division heading into the game to repay their coach’s faith. The race for the top six has now heated up even further, with Chennaiyin now moving to 10th place, but only three points behind sixth placed Bengaluru FC.
