Chelsea’s current players have a combined 191 years left on their contract, as originally reported by the Daily Mail. The Blues have been the highlight of every transfer window under the Todd Boehly era.

This summer, they have already spent over £200 million, with more players likely to follow. However, they are not any closer to being a convincing side on the field. Chelsea also have a bloated squad, and need to sell off or loan players to trim the numbers down to almost 30.

Jamie Carragher has often made his feelings about Chelsea’s transfer policy public. The legend has criticised the Blues for their rash spending in the transfer market, as well as selling off Cobham academy graduates such as Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount in recent years. Greame Souness shares the same sentiment, claiming the club’s owners are clueless about the sport and its transfer market.

Here is how the top five clubs with the most cumulative years left on their contracts line up:

1) Chelsea – 191

2) Tottenham – 97

3) Brighton – 96

4) Wolves 83

5) Manchester United – 82

Everton close out the table with 47 years, the least of the lot. The West Londoners recently extended Cole Palmer’s contract till 2033, keeping him at the club for a decade.

Over 10 players are not training with the team right now owing to the massive squad size. Players like Kepa, Romelu Lukaku, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka and more could be forced to leave the club this summer in an attempt to trim down the squad before the transfer window shuts down.
